
Goddard chose his home town School of Peqout Lakes High School to be sworn in as the new Sheriff for Crow Wing County last Wednesday, Jan. 9. Goddard was sworn in by Judge David TenEyck with his wife Carla, and two children, Jorden and Paxton, standing by his side. It has been over a decade since an inauguration ceremony has been held for the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department.
Godderd shared with the crowd his memories of looking back on his career and how it came to be. "This is my hometown," he said. "This is where I grew up. I'm very proud of being a lifelong resident of Crow Wing County. This was my school, my backyard. I roamed these halls, I could even tell you where my locker was." After graduating from Pequot High School he decided to go into law enforcement. Goddard went on to earn his law enforcement in 1993 at Central Lakes College formally know as Brainard Lakes College. He has an extensive career from starting as an officer in Breezy and Pequot Lakes to joining the Sheriff's Office working his way from patrol deputy, patrol sergeant, boat and water division, in 2013 promoted to lieutenant and Captain in 2017. Goddard ended his address by promising to serve the county to the best of his ability. He considers himself blessed to be in this new role and doesn't take his responsibility lightly.
