This past December Crow Wing County experienced a severe winter storm that destroyed many trees. Ideal’s 49 miles of roads were particularly impacted to the extent that our plow crews had to use chainsaws to open the road before they could plow. CWC declared a local emergency and with damage so extensive local jurisdictions qualified for State FEMA funds. Ideal hired four contractors to work on the cleanup effort. It has taken many weeks and we’re just finishing up the week of May 15th. In total we’ve worked on 27 miles of road.
We’ve had many calls inquiring about the remaining logs and stumps in the road right-of-way. The wood belongs to the property owner. Absent any instructions to remove it, it was left for them. If you don’t want the wood, please call the township office at 218-543-4392 and we’ll put you on the list. We’ll get to it as soon as we can. Keep in mind that we only have two maintenance employees. Regarding the stumps, some will be cut short, and others will be handled with a stump grinder. These will take a lot longer.
If you’d like to clean up your property sooner, we’re offering free tree and brush disposal at the Ideal Transfer Station which is currently open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 am to 4 pm.
